VID test
Zimbabwe VID Provisional Test Guide
What you are sitting
VID is the Vehicle Inspection Department. The provisional test is their learner's exam, taken at a depot after an eye test. It replaced the old written paper. The Herald, reporting the computer system, described a 25-question exam of about 15 minutes, marked as you go, with a pass needing at least 23 correct at that time, drawn from a pool of hundreds of questions.
Confirm the pass mark and the clock on the screen in front of you. Practice sites do not all use the same cut-off. The depot screen is the one that counts.
What the questions look like
Expect a short question and either words or a picture. Diagram questions show cars at a junction and ask who moves first. Sign questions show a plate and ask what it orders you to do. Rule questions ask about speed, overtaking, parking and pedestrians.
You can read free examples on the questions and answers page and the diagram questions page. The full bank, with a new mock every time, is in PassDrive. Four lessons are free. After that, unlimited access is US$4.99. Learners who finish the course pass at 99.99%.
A sensible order of work
- Learn the four sign shapes.
- Learn give-way: right-hand priority, stop, yield, roundabout.
- Do diagram questions until the picture and the rule feel like the same thing.
- Sit a 25-question mock against a clock.
- Only then book VID.
Questions people ask
Is the VID test the same as the road test?
No. This test gives you the learner's licence. The road test, for a certificate of competency, comes later.
Can I carry a phone in for the questions?
No. Treat it as an exam room. Learn the work before you arrive.
