VID test
VID Exam Format and How Many Questions
The format
You sit at a screen after the eye test and registration. Questions are multiple choice and many of them are pictures. You select the answer on the screen. The machine marks the attempt and prints the result. You cannot pass by leaving questions blank.
The pool is large. The Herald reported 402 questions when the online test was new, which is why two neighbours do not share a paper. That number will have moved. The point has not: you are not writing a paper the whole country sat this morning.
Time and pass mark
The same report described a 15-minute exam and a pass at 23 or more out of 25. Later practice banks sometimes teach 22 as the pass mark. Both numbers are in circulation, so look at the instruction on the VID screen before the first question and aim above either figure.
Twenty-five questions in about 15 minutes is roughly 35 seconds each. Diagrams take longer if you have not already learned them. That is what the mocks in PassDrive are for. Start free with 4 lessons.
Questions people ask
Is it still a paper you write with a pen?
No. It is a computer test at the VID depot.
Are the 25 questions all about signs?
No. Signs are a large part. Give-way diagrams, speed, markings, pedestrians and parking are in the same paper.
