Driving Lessons in Zimbabwe

Two different lessons

Learners mix them up and waste money. The provisional test is a computer at VID. No clutch, no hill start. You can prepare for it on your phone. PassDrive is that preparation: lessons, questions, diagrams and mocks. The first 4 lessons are free. Unlimited access is US$4.99. Learners who finish pass at 99.99%.

The second kind of lesson is in a car, after the learner's licence exists. You need L plates, a licensed supervisor, and enough hours to be safe. A school is optional and useful. It is not a substitute for the VID computer test.

A clean sequence

  1. Study and pass the provisional test.
  2. Fit L plates. The prescribed plate is 150 mm square.
  3. Practise with a supervisor or a school.
  4. Book the practical test while the learner's licence is inside its 12 months.

Harare students who want a dual-control car can book Appheal Driving School from PassDrive.

Questions people ask

Can I start road lessons before the provisional licence?

No. You need the learner's licence before you drive on a public road, even with an instructor.

How many road lessons do I need?

Enough that the manoeuvres are calm, not a fixed national number. Schools sell packages. Judge them by whether you can repeat a hill start and a parallel park, not by the size of the package.
