Information Road Signs

What they are for

Direction signs, place names, distances, hospitals, fuel, parking and tourist information live in this family. On the test, the trap is to treat an information sign as an order. A board that points to a hospital does not mean you must turn toward it. A parking symbol that informs you parking is available is not the same plate as a red circle that forbids parking.

How to answer the question

Say what the sign is telling a stranger who does not know the town. If the answers mix "you must" and "this shows", pick the one that matches a rectangle. Then revise the families you confuse it with: regulatory and mandatory.

Free practice question

These are PassDrive practice examples, written so you learn the rule. The VID screen randomises its questions, so the wording on the day will be different.

Practice

A blue rectangle shows a white bed symbol. What does it tell you?

  1. You must turn in at the hospital
  2. Stopping is prohibited
  3. There is a hospital or medical service in the direction shown
  4. The speed limit is about to drop
Show the answer

C. There is a hospital or medical service in the direction shown. That is information. It does not order a turn and it does not set a speed.

Questions people ask

Do information signs appear in the provisional test?

Yes. You need to know they inform, and not to confuse them with a blue mandatory circle.
